Our knowledge of Iceland, was rather limited to whatever we seen in the movie "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty", which pretty much sparked off interest at least among locals here, of what a beautiful island it must be. The project certainly got us very excited! We did as much research as we could, but little did we realize that it was going to be snowing at random times and freezing at 0 to -7 degrees Celsius throughout our trip.. The minute we landed at Iceland and just that 50m to the bus, we began to worry about the shoot as we were greeted in a not-too-warm way by icy wind and rain.. but eventually with careful planning & sheer willpower, we managed to triumph over Mother Nature :)
WE DID IT! All 4 of us squeezed into a MPV along 4 luggages and 2 bags of equipment ( + wedding gowns and shoes and jackets and props and...), we traveled over 800 miles around Golden Circle & Route 1 of Iceland which goes one round the main island, braving the snow storms & piercing cold wind, enduring frozen palms & cheekbones, trespassing private property just to get a shot outside their unique house, surviving a horrific MPV-stuck-in-the-mud experience on a raining morning, putting up with the stench of the peeing and shitting by the sheep once we stepped into their pen, all 4 of us squeezing in various houses and cottages & helping to keep each other warm by cooking hot drinks & soup, and lastly, an unexpected appearance of the aurora lights which lasted faintly for 10-15mins while we were just approaching our resting point for that night, which had us scrambling for our equipment and getting dressed in wedding gears to have the couple photographed with the delighted sight..
Enough said, it's time for a sneak preview! Here are some of our favourite shots among many... and yes, they were all taken at temperatures of mostly -2 to 2 degrees!
